Précoce, Cycle 1 + 2
Two squirrels, an argument, and a few surprise guests – a story that deliberately remains simple. No rapid image changes, no spectacular effects. Instead, plenty of paper, scissors, and colours, with hand-painted images that are moved and animated. Everything unfolds live in front of the audience – calm, tangible, with great attention to detail and a unique sense of refinement.
Back to the basics is not just a motto, but a clear artistic stance. The story is part of the Semplice series by Toile Si-Re. Craftsmanship lies at its core: tangible materials and the acts of moving, folding, cutting, tearing, and transforming paper. An invitation to rediscover how much can be created from simple things – without technical or electronic means. The screen, camera, and projector simply enlarge what is created by hand.
Like its own narrative flow, the music composed for the story overlays the projected images. The saxophone comes alive through a distinctive sound language, built on the modes of Olivier Messiaen. Strange yet somehow familiar, curious and surprising, it immerses the audience in a specific sound world and shows that even such unusual music can find its way to a very young audience.

Information about the company
In 2017, Annick Sinner and Nadine Kauffmann founded the duo Toile Si-Re to bring Luxembourgish classics to the stage through musical puppet theatre. Their first productions were De Wëllefchen an de Fiisschen, followed by D’Maus Kätti.
From 2020 onwards, the duo developed a new artistic form through the series Semplice – Back to Basics, in which image and music merge on equal terms, without words or spoken language. The first creation in the series, Lice & Semp, took the form of a painted concert with original music. With Tolo & Scoia, the duo continues this artistic journey: live-created drawings and projections enter into a poetic dialogue with music, creating imaginative worlds for audiences of all ages.
The name Toile Si-Re symbolizes the meeting of image and sound, of canvas and music – the two artistic realms that shape the duo’s work.
Toile Si-Re brings together Annick Sinner’s creativity in painting, illustration and stage design with Nadine Kauffmann’s compositional work, which develops a distinctive musical language for each project.
All productions remain part of the duo’s repertoire and are available for booking. Over the years, this has resulted in a collection of timeless works that continue to inspire new generations of children and adults to dream, explore and discover.
